The Psychology Department Welcomes Two Tenure-Track Professors to the Department

Dr. Erin Buckels (Ph.D., University of British Columbia, 2018) has been a familiar face in the Department for some time—she is a UWinnipeg alumna (BA, Honours, 2009, Psychology) who conducted some of her UBC Ph.D. research in the Psychology Department. More recently, she has been teaching in the Department as Assistant Professor since the Fall of 2019.

She teaches courses such as Personality Psychology and Data Analysis, and her SSHRC-funded research focuses on the “Dark Tetrad” of personality, as well as the destructive aspects of social media. Her numerous stellar research articles, such as “Trolls Just Want to Have Fun” (Drs Erin E. Buckels, Paul D. Trapnell, Delroy L. Paulhus, September 2014, Personality and Individual Differences) often make headlines in popular media. We welcome Dr. Buckels to the Department—or perhaps more precisely, we welcome her back to her alma mater.

Dr. Brandon Goulding (Ph.D., University of Waterloo, 2021) joins the Department after completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto (Mississauga). Dr. Goulding’s research focuses on how children reason about the possibility of strange and unfamiliar events. In other work, he has examined how children reason about their past and future selves and how they understand object and territory ownership. He has published several articles in first-rate journals in his field (e.g., Child Development, Developmental Psychology, and Cognition), which is particularly impressive for an early-career researcher. Dr. Goulding also has extensive and varied teaching experience. He will begin his teaching duties in the Psychology Department in Winter 2023 with the course, Developmental Psychology I: Fundamentals. We welcome Dr. Goulding to the Department and as a new resident of Winnipeg.

Congratulations to Drs Buckels and Goulding for their respective professorial appointments at UWinnipeg.
